One day is enough to walk the Old Town, climb the Cathedral steps, see the Jewish Quarter, the Arab Baths and the Onyar houses. Add a second day for the Game of Thrones tour or a day trip to Figueres or the Costa Brava.

High-speed AVE trains from Barcelona Sants reach Girona in 38 minutes from $15. Slower regional trains take 1h20 and cost less. Direct buses run from Barcelona Nord every hour.

Walking tours of the Old Town start from $15 per person, Game of Thrones tours from $25, half-day Dali Museum trips around $70 and full-day Costa Brava day trips from $80 with transport included.

Tickets are easy to buy on the day for the Cathedral and the Arab Baths, but for guided tours and the Dali Museum in Figueres pre-booking is recommended, especially in summer.

The famous Cathedral steps doubled as the Great Sept of Baelor (Walk of Shame), Sant Marti church as the House of Black and White, and the Jewish Quarter and Arab Baths feature in season 6 episodes set in Braavos.

Top day trips: Figueres for the Dali Museum (40 min), Tossa de Mar walled town (1h), Cadaques and Port Lligat (1h45), Besalu medieval village (45 min), Pals and Empuries Roman ruins (1h), and Perpignan in France (1h30).

Girona Cathedral opens 10 AM to 6:30 PM (April to October until 8 PM). Arab Baths 10 AM to 7 PM. The Dali Museum in Figueres opens 9 AM to 8 PM in summer, 10:30 AM to 6 PM in winter, closed Mondays off-season.

May (Temps de Flors flower festival) and September are ideal: warm, fewer crowds, lower prices. Summer is hot and busy, perfect for combining with the Costa Brava. Winter is mild and quiet with low hotel prices.
